This year, New York State will undergo the once-in-a-decade process of redrawing its electoral districts. But what exactly is redistricting? Why does it matter? And how can communities get involved? In this session, we review how redistricting has impacted electoral politics in New York State, the importance of redrawing political boundaries, and why it’s so critical for communities of color, immigrants, and others who are historically left out to get involved in the process. Melody Lopez of the New York Civic Engagement Table and John Albert of Taking Our Seat share their insights from the previous redistricting process and how communities can get involved this time around.
